International Museum Day

The International Council of Museums (ICOM), in its effort to highlight the role of museums in contemporary society established 18 May as International Museum Day.The message of this day is to make museums agents of cultural exchange, and for the “enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples”.

Each International Museum Day, the Greek Section of ICOM organises cultural events in Kavala and in many other towns throughout the whole of Greece. It also has a special dedication each year to one or more Greek museums, where the central event of the festival is held.

If you wish to combine the events on 18 May with a visit to one of Kavala’s museums, then keep in mind that entrance to all museums is free on that day.
