Holy Monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Panagia)

Tradition holds that the Virgin herself, in the form of a woman dressed in black with a halo, appeared to a young local shepherd and indicated to him that a new church should be built at the spot where the lost miracle-working icon would again be found. In a bush close to where myrrh grew, the icon was found as well as the miracle-working spring with holy water. The inhabitants therefore built a small chapel there initially, in which they placed the icon of the Virgin next to the source of the fountain. It is a male monastery and celebrates on 15 August.

Built in a landscape with wild olive trees and pines, the monastery inspires devotion and exultation in the visitor.
