Holy Monastery of Saint Panteleimon

The monastery is located at the peak of Mt Ypsario, at an altitude of 770 m above the traditional village of Mikro Kazaviti. This is where the miracle-working icon of Saint Panteleimon was found and the church was built later in 1843. In 1987 it was converted into a women’s monastery. Next to the church there is a cave that the healer Saint Panteleimon is said to have passed through. The monastery celebrates on 27 July.

The cave next to the monastery is freezing cold even in the summer! Over the centuries, the stalactites and stalagmites have formed a natural trough, from which holy water gushes, which according to the faithful, works miracles.
