The town Lighthouses

The Lighthouse district, as the locals always call it, is one of the most magical parts of Panagia, and one might imagine that it is keeping the secrets of the past close to its chest.

This area is today used for belvedere: you can have a panoramic view over the sea, enjoy the sunset and, if the sky is clear, see the island of Thassos in the background, Mt Athos in the west and the coasts of Keramoti in the east. On reaching the Lighthouse, at the edge of Panagia, you will have come to the point where the land meets the sea. The visual image changes during the day and depending on the season, but it is surely most romantic in the evening. In reality, however, aside from the excellent view on offer it is the beginning of a special walk. From here you can enjoy the “lighthouse route”, a wonderful route that takes visitors down from the steps next to the Primary School to the green lighthouse of the pier, turns back and follows the coastal wall of the town, passing the port andthe palm trees, toend at the red lighthouse of the small pier.
